Do “approved,” “registered,” and “licensed” mean the same thing?

The page shows an official-looking seal. The small print says “registered.” That word does less work than many people think.

Product

Approval is about the medicine itself

As of September 2026, no compounded drug carries FDA approval, even one made by a well-run pharmacy.

Business record

Registration is not approval

As of September 2026, an FDA registration is not an FDA approval, either of the business (a drug maker, say) or of any drug it lists.

Permission to practise

A licence belongs to a person or pharmacy

Check the clinician and the pharmacy as separate records. One does not stand in for the other.

Accreditation means an outside group checked that a pharmacy follows the national quality rules for making medicines.

It checks how the work is done, not each batch. It is not a state licence.
